A Well

I am not a water tank
that only fills to be emptied
sourced from below
stagnant water warm from the sun
that runs dry when one has forgotten
to run the pump.
I am not a faucet
turned off and turned on
sourced from a distance
tepid water unfit to drink
cut off when one has forgotten
to pay the bill.
I am not a river
dammed and subdued
flowing always away from its source
muddied with the silt of its journey
that grows shallow when one has forgotten
to open the floodgates.
No, but I am a well
dug deep below the water table
drawing cool drink from the depths
uncontaminated by surface debris.
Yes, I am a well
of water available for all who seek
always replenished from the Source
that will never run dry.
